A Shihan is a person who has reached an extremely high level of skill and knowledge in order to be able to perform, understand, and explain the style that they are doing. There are no particular regulations about the rank that this is achieved, but it is expected that Shihan will be of a level that they can either be a Shibucho or can support Shibuchos and Dojochos with their teaching and management. It is awarded by the dojo, and recipients are expected to provide assistance to the Kancho and Fukukancho in the running of the overall organisation.
